Good-byes

I hate good-byes. Okay well I guess most people do. Of course there are those moments, those people, those places that you are just ready to leave behind. The ones you can't WAIT to pass. But for the most part good-byes are not fun. Our good friends left this morning to go back to the states. We came here together from Tucson, our husbands work for the same company. Here we are 3 years later and they are going home and we are still here. As much as there were things about them that drove us crazy - they are the "whispering" couple that like to tell secrets at dinner - we are going to miss them.

They were the kind of friends that you could call at 7:00pm and they would be over to play games by 7:30 until all hours of the night. We shopped together, we travelled together, we sent our children to the same school and we saved eachother seats at all those wonderful school functions.

Now I am alone. Sure, I have a few other friends but we all know the difference between the "drop everything to be there friends" and the ones that you have to call and plan things a week out.

Oh, and to top it off they had the nerve to take my BABYSITTER with them too!! Now I'm going to have to go back to calling and arranging sitters instead of them dropping their 3 kids off here and us going out. Oh wait - guess we won't be going out so no need for the sitter now right?

You were very lucky to have friends like that. Those are the best kind of frineds to have.
Did they move back to Tucson?

No - the nerve of them - they moved to GEORGIA. Something about being closer to their family on the East coast! LOL

I know how you feel. Several of my dearest friends are moving to states far from here. I am going to miss them dearly. Sorry to hear they took the sitter, too.

That's the rotten part of expat life, making good friends and then watching them leave.

I HATE friends moving...once, a best friend moved and I cried so hard, I start convulsing. Well, not so much but almost! My heart goes out to you. Eat some chocolate. And I'm not sure which is worst...good friends or BABYSITTERS! I used to hate having to call for a sitter. If they said no, I was sure that they hated my kids, my house, me, that I didn't have the proper snacks, or best t.v., etc. etc. Good luck on that one....

You know I meant "worse" not worst.

It's hard to have friends move away! We are in the process of a big move and its nuts. But I'm realizing every place we live is another new place to make great friends...our christmas card list will be tripled now that we will have to send cards to people here too!

I am constantly going through this - but the one nice part of the Army is that you usually run into the same friends at another location. I have one friend I've moved with 3 times! We seem to follow them around... But it does seem the "good" friends leave so fast, and the people you don't like so much (to put it nicely) stick around WAY TOO LONG!

Ugh. I hate hate hate 'losing' friends through moving... even though it's usually me that does the moving. Of course, it gives me people to 'go home' and visit. ;-)
