Thursday Thirteen #10

#10 Thirteen Television Shows on our Tivo

Living in England we get a lot of American TV shows. The only downside is that the seasons are offset. So quite often we are several months behind or in some cases the season as ended in the states but is just starting here. Here are some of our favorites:

1. CSI
2. CSI: Miami
3. CSI: New York (are we seeing a trend here?)
4. House
5. ER – it’s been on forever and I’m going to see it through.
6. Criminal Minds – I watch this one alone because my husband insists he doesn’t need to get addicted to another show – he’s probably right.
7. Without a Trace – this is my backup when I don’t have anything else to watch. I don’t LOVE it but it’s alright.
8. Boston Legal – my husband likes this show – we were fans of The Practice and followed it over because James Spader used to be funny.
9. Numbers – aside from our obvious addiction to crime drama my husband has a degree in Math so he loves to point out the incorrect parts of this show.
10. Super Nanny – you think those little American kids are naughty? You should watch Jo in action with some of these British kids. (We get both the US and the UK show – we prefer Super Nanny in the UK.)
11. Heroes – I have the entire first season recorded but haven’t watched any of them. I’ll get around to it someday I’m sure.
12. Desperate Housewives – I really tried NOT to watch this one but during the peak of my husbands Runescape addiction I had to find something else to occupy my time.
13. Hannah Montana – yes I have a 5 year old and she loves Hannah Montana.

And yes, I know we only watch American television but what can I say? I do enjoy Rosemary and Thyme but I just catch that one every now and then.

I've never heard of the numbers programme, which channel is that on?

I'm with you on CSI:NY, ER, Criminal Minds (love, love, love), and Heroes.

I hear such good things about House but have never watched it. Maybe I'll give it a try.

Happy TT,

~X

We're often a few weeks to a season or more behind here too, but no tivo.

I like Without A Trace. I'll often watch the various CSI's but they get much too graphic at times. I'm a big fan of 24 and Rome though.

The only tv I watch is shows 1 - 9 but with cold case included.
I love Spencer in C.M

I also watch cold case but it hasn't been on here in ages so it currently isn't on my tivo. Grey's Anatomy - I just got hooked at the end of the season so I'm sure I'll pick it up when it comes on again.

Will have to watch it! The chicken curry recipe I make is here:

Really sweet, and introduced my 3yr old to mild spices

I have a few recipes on my blog; goal is to have the TT recipes on, at some point! :-)

Thank goodness for tivo! The Law and Order's are great - but no Special Victim's Unit?

I have been an on and off view of ER from about the 2nd season. Although I haven't watched it for a couple of seasons, I will probably tune in for the final episode. The way it's going, who knows when that will be.

Since the seasons are offset, I'll bet that you have to be really careful to avoid any spoilers for the U.S. shows that you watch.

The only show on your list that we watch consistently is Numb3rs. Love it. We also catch Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares on BBC, which we LOVE!

Years ago when I lived in West Berlin my Hubby came home and found we watching General Hospital in German and I was in tears! He asked what was going on, since I didn't speak much German. I told him that the episode in question had been on two years before with Luke and Laura and I knew exactly what was happening. LOL

We have a similar lag in Canada. I'm dying to see The Tudors this fall!!

I finally sat down and watched an episode of Hannah Montana. It was cute. Didn't realize she was Billy Ray Cyrus' daughter. Go figure.

I have to admit, the TV over there wasn't great. Sorry that you are behind the shows.

I LOVE TIVO.

I like catching all the reruns on Direct TV with it... Miami Vice, The Wonder Years...let's not forget the educational stuff, deadliest catch, National Geographic, How it's Made, Dirtiest Jobs, MYTHBUSTERS!!!! LOL okay, yes. we love tv around here. I don't know what I'll do when we decided enough is enough and get rid of it totally.

Good list! I love Heroes.

When I was in England, I felt like I would never ever get their sense of humor. And their dramas seemed super cheesy. Oh what was that one that was on... the filming quality was awful. Set in a hospital. Timmy fell in the lake? Idunno.

I <3 house!

You probably don't want to know this, but you can watch the shows just after they air on ABC and CBS! We watch them on the computer if we miss an episode. I know, thats sad, but what can I say? we have 7 kids, tv's all we can afford for entertainment, lol.

My daughter loves, Hannah Montana, too!

Criminal Minds and Boston Legal and my favorite. I'll sometimes watch Super Nanny just to make myself feel better that my kids aren't so bad :o) All great shows and a great TT list!

I've watched about half of those on your list and liked them. Nice list.

I don't get many TV stations where I live, but I enjoy watching Criminal Minds when I can at my boyfriend's house. We watched most of the first season of Heroes, too, and enjoyed it.

Happy TT!

Your list looks a lot like mine would! With only a couple of exceptions - I've never gotten into Desperate Housewives or Boston Legal. And we're just starting the whole Hannah Montana phase... :)

Well, I may have to give some of those a shot, although anything CBS-related is O-U-T, since I've been boycotting ALL CBS shows for the last four years...

i so wish i had a tivo! good list!

Anonymous said...

Oh yes. I'll watch ER until it dies, too. Loved your list!

We can't watch anything on the internet here - as CBS/NBC/ABC all can tell through all that cyber stuff that we are NOT in the US so they don't give us access to their TV. We do download Survivor and Lost on the Ipod though, lol. Yes, we pay to watch Survivor - sue us.

I love all the CSI shows, Criminal Minds, Without a Trace, Boston Legal and Numbers!

ewe are here said...

Oh, yes, the American shows are what we watch the most.

Love Grey's Anatomy. And waiting for Lost to return to the non-pay channels... Grrrrr.

The only one of those I watch is Desperate Housewives, even though it becomes more and more irritating.

Ooooooo, I LOVE Criminal Minds, CSI NY and Heroes. (CM is my favorite though) Fun list! Happy 13. Thanks for checking out my 13 works of art.

The only one I've heard of is Hannah Montanna... we don't watch TV. Probably makes us social feaks or something, but it frees up time for blogging.

I watch several of those shows also. ER is one of my favs. Happy TT!

I like lots that you have listed. I don't get much TV time but I really enjoy a good Hannah Montana!

I am 21 days from PCSing back Stateside. I SO feel your TV pain! I survived about 2 months without Sky, and then I broke down and haven't watched a British TV show since.
BTW, Grey's Anatomy is on Living TV on Thursday nights. Season 3. It's about halfway through.
My big UK-to-US TV dilemma is that all the season premiers are going to air the week before I get back, and most of the shows I love love love to watch have not yet finished here! See the conundrum? Sigh. That's what I get for marrying one of the Boys in Blue.
Love your blog!

Desperate Housewives? But I'm with you on all the others, especially CSI Miami. David Caruso's character is weird, but oddly compelling. My daughters love Hannah Montana and truth be known, I watch that and Spongebob sometimes when I'm all alone! Does that make me a weirdo? Probably! :-) Have you ever watched the Office, UK or American version? It's our favorite, although last season wasn't their best. I have hope for the coming season. I think you'd like it!
