I saw this Flashback Friday theme on Stomper Girl's blog and it looked like fun so I thought I would play along today. Flashback friday is a flickr photo group - but I have no problem stealing the idea to share on my blog. LOL
The Theme for today is What Our Mums Did to Our Hair. Of course, since I am the queen of Moms not Mums - Mine will be appropriately called:
What Our Moms Did to Our Hair
I really could leave this as a wordless Wednesday couldn't I? I mean the picture does really say it all. I do have to defend my Mom just a bit and let you all know that the fact is that this was my Dad's attempt at a cute little Dorothy Hammil Haircut.
As you can see - it wasn't quite what I had in mind. My dad DOES have his Barbers license but in 1979 that meant he had a license to cut BOYS hair. This was the one and only time he ever cut my hair. My daughter was looking at the picture my mom so proudly hangs on her wall - along with my brother's 1st grade picture - and she declared that she will never let Grandpa cut her hair - she's a smart girl.

I think you look cute. And your bangs are straight. Matt and I went through some of my photos as we are trying to figure out what Lily might look like. In every school photo my bangs start out fine on on one side and then get shorter on the other with a little bit hanging longer than any others. In every photo till 5th grade. What on earth was my mom thinking?
The most important question, that a hair cut like this raises is, did it help your ice skating?
OMG, I had the same cut. And the same turtleneck, I fear!
i actually had the dorothy hamill bob around 6th or 7th grade...i think it was 6th. i won't even tell you how it that bob came about from hair that was just about down to my waist. lol so maybe the bob started up in 5th and went thru to 6th. lol maybe i'll drudge up a photo from somewhere lol
The first photo looks very familiar. Marissa's dad cut her hair like that one time. I wouldn't let him cut her hair again.
You looked really good, stylin the Hamil cut.
What a picture!!! I had a Dorothy cut when I was 13...didn't all girls? Unfortunately, that style didn't look good on very many people BESIDES Dorothy! :-) Thinking of your dad the barber, my mom took me to the barber's shop when I was in 1st grade ...she assured me they knew how to cut girl's hair. My hair turned out looking almost exactly like yours in the picture! But what stuck in my mind (besides the being traumatized for life by having sideburns) was that my Sunday School class made so much fun of me for it, while my school classmates didn't. That has always stayed with me because even then I knew it should be the other way around.
ROFL. I think your Dad had the basic cut right - he just maybe didn't factor in the amount of product and blow-drying required to get Dorthy's look?.
I had that haircut!
And I ice-skated...;-)
