Thursday Thirteen #15

#15 13 Places that I Shop Online.

Since living in England I have had to give up a lot of my favorite places to eat and shop. However, I've also done my share of online shopping. The downside is ordering things and not having them fit or look like you wanted them too. The upside is when it comes to Christmas shopping I get what I'm looking for and that's that - and if I order in good time it's all here and done early.

1. Eddie Bauer When I talk aobut things not fitting right this most often happens here though - while I have to pay shipping on returns it's still an easy process.

2. Old Navy I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of person so this works for me. And I know that their clothes fit my children so that's a bonus.

3. The Gap I'm not a regular here but they will ship to me so that's good to know.

4. The Children's Place I don't often shop here as it's hard for me to tell from their pictures if the clothing is REALLY bright or not. I'm expecting a few things for Jordan any day now though.

5. JC Penney For all of our normal housewares. Of course when I needed mini blinds for the entire house they wouldn't ship them so I got those from Domestications.

6. Walmart Don't be taken in by their lower prices - their shipping usually makes it equal or more to other sites. They are also weird about shipping some electronics. I know a girl who ordered all her Christmas gifts before Thanksgiving and nothing came until January. Luckily I've never had that issue.

7. Target Actually I've only used this for sending things to people still IN the states. Target is notorious for letting me fill up my cart and then at the end telling me they won't ship 1/2 the stuff to my APO.

8. Best Buy All those electronics Walmart won't ship? Best Buy will!

9. Toys R Us Not sure if we've shopped there since they went from Amazon to just their own shop but I never had any complaints.

10. drugstore.com Great site - keeps a list of things you frequently purchase and we got our new sonic toothbrush here MUCH cheaper than anywhere else.

11. Discovery Store They have all those techie toys my husband likes getting the kids. We once got a defective product and they shipped us a new one right away.

12. Tiger Direct For all of your computer needs.

13. Tire Rack Yes, we even buy car tires online. They come within a week - usually 2 tires taped together with a label stuck on them.

I'll be glad when I can actually shop in person again. I should also clarify that we get paid in American dollars. There are plenty of places to shop on the economy but when it takes $2 to make 1pound you start realizing you're paying double for a lot of things and that's a bit rough on the pocketbook.

Oh, I bet you can't wait to do it in person. What a hassle!

Great TT. Sounds like you never have to leave home...

I like abc distributing too because of the unique novelty gifts real cheap (inexpensive). :) Still love those online stores too!

I go to Wal-Mart in person, when I absolutely have to. The only place I shop online at is Amazon, and I spend far too much money there!

I love drustore.com. I must spend far too much there as it's "dollars" time & I have about 12. Interesting list. Always love to read your take on Expat life.

happy TT! Love the list. I shop at some of those stores online, too. It's sometimes easier to order things online, I just hate waiting for them.

That's a cool list. I shop a lot online but usually buy IRL :) Because many places charge a lot for canadian shipping!!! UGGH!!!

Happy TT , mine's up!

Isn't The Limited an English company? I thought they had nice things in the English stores, but I couldn't afford any of them with my useless American dollars...

I only shop Amazon online as someone else said, spend too much. ;-) I lived in England for four years and didn't feel the need to order from the US. Are you finding certain things are difficult to get your hands on? I live in Japan now. I have to admit that at least in England I could find clothes and shoes that fit. LOL!

Happy TT.

I miss the good old days of having an APO box and catalogue shopping!

Besides tigerdirect, these are all great stores I visit but won't online shop at cause of the size issue you mentioned. Also cause I find it easier to just go (but I know that England would be a long drive... and flight!) I wasn't a big fan of m&s clothes and they were the cheapest (yet still $$$) that I could find!

That's a great list! I've shopped at most of those. :)

I do a lot of online shopping when I know there's someone coming over here, but not much otherwise. The shipping and customs fees make it not worth it.

Wow..I've only done online shopping once..it was an interesting experience..but somehow I still prefer to go shopping the "traditional" way..

I love shopping online its alot easier in some cases instead of having to fight with crowded stores I love Drugstore.com. At some stores sometimes you can get a good deal but occasionally the s&h makes it easier to shop in the store

Wow. I'm a little amazed you do so much international shopping on line.

I've shopped nearly every place you mentioned and yet never online, even though I check their stock online all the time. I guess something about the tactile sensation of clothes shopping among fit issues have always made in person easier.

But I'm always grateful for the online options for things even if books are the extent of my purchases. LOL.

Happy Thursday

Boy, does this sound familiar! Especially #7--I get so FRUSTRATED at places that won't ship APO. Most infuriating was Buy.com, which up until about a year ago was my favorite place to get books, DVDs, CDs, and videogames. Then they abruptly stopped shipping to APOs.

I love Puritan's Pride--every package from them comes with a little thank-you note for military. ThinkGeek is great, too, if you like gadgets--and they were very helpful when one broke.

I'm with you on the weak dollar. It's not faring well against the Euro, either.

Thank you! You just saved me a trip to the mall (about an hour away). I have a gift card for JCP and wanted to get my baby boy some essentials.. GREAT LIST, HAPPY TT!!

Yup I noticed that shopping over there is a challenge. Yay for the internet.

I've never shopped at any of those sites. If you're having problems buying stuff in the UK, send me an email, as a Londoner I might be able to give you some advice.

Good to know! Luckily my Target is close. I don't know what I'd do without it!

Hmm, doesn't the shipping eat up what you saved, especially on big items? I live in Mexico and about the only thing I order online from the States is books.

more of a reason not to shop at walmart... ok.

Love gap and old navy though!

I do not pay international shipping - we are on a military base so we have an American Post Office box.

I shop online at those places too and most of them are within a 15 minute drive!! It's easier, quicker and you save on gas!
Happy TT!

I shop online a lot, too. But, I remember the joys of catalog shopping when we lived in Germany. We lived there before computers. And, I still haven't forgiven JC Penney for shipping an item to me instead of to my Mom for Christmas one year.(LOL) Although I shop with them a lot now anyway.

Great list of places. Happy TT!
