The Naughty Step

I was reading over at Wherever Ewe Go and she had a post about her son acting out and her use of the naughty step. It got me to thinking while I responded to her and I'm wondering how much longer I've got the naughty step for. We are fans of the naughty step. Almost every home we've been in in England has stairs. My parents home in California doesn't have stairs but they do have ONE step. So, where ever we go my kids can be banished to the naughty step. I've been known to have a train of naughty children on the stairs before - at equal distances sitting quietly. I've had Jordan tell me she's tired and when I yell from the kitchen that maybe she should take a nap she's asked "does that mean I can get off the stairs?" Yes, I've forgotten about children on the naughty step......more than once. I just wonder how long this is going to last. We've got a good thing here. It's a useful tool in our house. But my kids are 5, 8 and 10. I certainly can't get away too much longer with putting a 10 year old on a naughty step can I? Do you suppose he'll get bullied at school if at 15 I tell him "when you get home it's straight to the naughty step for you!" Do you think he'll sit on the step at 15? Maybe I shouldn't doubt it - I should just take the ride for as long as it's willing to go.

Visions of your son at 15 sitting on the naughty step smoking, with his arm around his mini skirted girlfriend and a tin of beer in this other hand LMFAO HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That's what I'd do - ride it till it works no longer. Any tool that works is a good tool! Cute post!

i haven't even heard of the naughty step. i guess it's like the time out corner, eh? but i don't use that either lol i usually send them to their rooms which doesn't seem to work out really since they have tvs, radios, and such in there. even when i tell them i don't want to hear anything on, they somehow sneak something on. but the kids are almost 13, almost 11, and almost 9 now. so we hit em where it hurts em most...take away things that are precious commodities to them (i.e.xbox, playstation, time outside, and a lot of other different things). that works pretty well (most of the time anyways lol)

p.s. we do have stairs so maybe i should try it..nah, it wouldn't work on my kids lol

Be happy you've got something that works, and begin to ground, and take away when it stops working. We've always spanked & it works just dandy.

I wish we had a naughty step, seems like sending them to their rooms, defeats the purpose.
Lindsay I put her in her crib until she calms down, but at 20 months I wonder how long that's going to last. Pretty soon, she'll just try and climb out.

With Marissa, the grounding works, no football games, and taking things away like phone, TV, and radio for at least a week, are working.

I suspect at some point we'll have to switch to grounding them...

I would love to sit on the naughty step if I had a good book to read. Maybe when the kids act up, YOU go to the naughty step and leave them in charge of all the work!

We have the naughty chair for my youngest. It just sounds more chic than the "time out" chair :)

Yeah...I'd like to be the one bannished to the naughty step too. Sounds like Heaven. lol

We started using the bottom step as punishmentwith my 2 year old. Now all I have to do is threaten him with having to sit on the stairs and he usually shapes up pretty quickly. lol

My philosophy? If it's still working, don't mess with it! ;)

Hello
Here at Supernanny, we've found that the naughty step - and its friends, the naughty mat and naughty corner are hugely successful. Not sure if they'd work for teenagers though! Please take a look at our website, supernanny.co.uk for more information on Supernanny techniques! Love the blog by the way.....
